#250: Switchin' to Glide

This ridiculous 80's one hit wonder came on Kink as I was driving home, and the horrendous deejay then said they were switchin' to glide for my drive home! Vomit. But this song is pretty hilarious. Nothing matters but the weekend from a Tuesday point of view!

#249: For Once In My Life

Basically I just realized this wasn't on my 365 and I RIGHTED THAT WRONG.

#248: Echoes

My dear MMG and I hung out and sung Dar, thinking of when we sung to Mr Housley. Which we did later!

#247: Stranger

More from Cobbay. Actually AKerr put this on while we were hanging out in the hole. It's very lively, for Lissie!

#246: You're a Cad

Spoon turned me onto this group. Intoxicating!

#245: Postcards From Hell

This song came on the radio while cavorting about the Eug with my simian. I was intrigued! Also, AKerr went to their (three hour) concert and I could have gone! But I couldn't have gone. I think I was at a Blazer game?

#244: You

While in Eugene, mah simian and his decidedly more human sister and I hiked Spencer's Butte. This song, which we listened to on our drive out, is apparently(!) from BS's workout playlist!?! This is why we get along. [BS - Too much public humiliation? Personally I think it isn't humiliating in the least.]

#243: When the Levee Breaks

My simian turned me onto this brass band cover of "When the Levee Breaks" sometime last year, but only recently did he send me an actual mp3 of it! Suffice it to say, it is inhumanly awesome. Trombones emulating Jimmy Page's sick guitar is maybe equally as awesome as Jimmy Page's sick guitar. Maybe.

#242: Finally Moving

I went to see The Imaginary Invalid at Portland Center Stage with my momma and two of her friends. It was pretty great! Although I was a bit put off by the variety of accents. The main old guy had an old world British accent, but his maid was straight up current American. The daughter was sort of mildly British. And the notary was highly exaggerated French. What? Accents notwithstanding, the actors all put up solid performances. It was an adaptation, and I'm very curious as to how much of it was original Moliere and how much was added. Wh0 knew Moliere made so many fart jokes? I am pretty convinced most of those are original, since scatological humor is as old as pooping.

ANYWAY, we went to Jinx beforehand for drinks and appetizers (cheese filled artichoke hearts? yes please) and I heard this song playing. I later went up to the bartender and asked the name of "that Etta James remix."
"This is my iPod, but there's no Etta James on this playlist."
"Huh. I'm pretty sure it was her. Maybe another female soul singer?"
"I mean, I'll check, but I don't know."
Later that night, the EXACT same song comes on again and I rushed up to her and said "THIS SONG! Who is this?" And she said "Ohhhh, this is Pretty Lights. It's not Etta James."
Um... just... yes it is. Pretty Lights is using an Etta James track. So the person singing is Etta James. I understand that she isn't the person who mixed this particular track, but you'll note I did originally ask about a REMIX. The worst part is this girl pretended to know who Etta James was, even telling me she loved her. Clearly, you do not love Etta James, woman.
Are you intrigued by this track? Want some more Etta? I know. Everyone does. It's "Something's Got a Hold On Me" and sadly, it was on my 365 in 2008(!) so I was not yet blogging about it. But you can listen to it anyway!
Fun fact: Florence (of Florence + the Machine) got her manager by following him into the bathroom of a club and serenading him with this song. Also here's Christina Aguilera doing what I do when I listen to this song home alone. With only slightly more talent. And less shimmying.

#241: Friends

Cleaning and listening to Urban Outfitter's LSTN. This one is very catchy and fun! Unlike most hipster music. Too bad this video is so creepy.

#240: Amoreena

I listen to the oldies station too much.

This week in my planner Princess Soap (I crowned her recently) wrote down all the kinds of girl scout cookies so that my roommates would know what they could order. It took the entire week.

#239: Higher Love

AKerr and I somehow started singing this song while hanging around the living room. And then he sent it to his boss?!?
This video is basically exactly how I imagine the 80s. Maybe more naked though.

#237: Nothing's Ever Gonna Stand In My Way (Again)

Eugene! We may or may not have spent most of the day watching scathing, hilarious reviews of the Star Wars prequels, but also sometimes we listened to music and BS put this song on. Also we scarfed down fish and chips on the way to The Social Network which I thought was pretty good!

#236: What Do I Do

Football sent me a text that said "CHECK YOUR EMAIL NOW" and I found an email from him saying I would love this song. HE WAS SO RIGHT. Nothing quite like bluesy soul-inspired pop!

#235: Parachute

This was also from driving around with Football on Monday. I've decided that my biggest pet peeve is when people drive without their lights on in the fog/rain/darkness. Also people that completely disregard traffic laws. Why are there so many of these people in Portland?
Track below! Ingrid Michaelson is so awesome. I haven't heard a single thing from her that wasn't intoxicating.

#234: City With No Children

BS sent me a mix cd that miraculously arrived on the worst day ever. What a magical boyfriend I have! Track below.

#232: Around the Block

Football took me for a drive so that I could get out of the house (and leave my security blanket behind - a difficult task for me when I'm sick. My couch blanket is a wonderful fleece blanket Paige made for me and when I am even a little sick I just live inside it) and then I felt sick again and got back in bed. Wow. Was there ever a story here? Yes. We listened to this band in the car. That's all.

In case you are in Google Reader, there's a track here.... Alex.
