#228: $12 Specs

I'm just really pumped about Oceanics and I wish I had more of their music. Also I became king of hipster music for about 12 seconds when I had to email a band asking for their music because you can't even download it in the US... I mean, it's no big deal. You probably haven't heard of them because their first US airplay was in December, but it's not like that makes me better than you. Except that it does.

In other news, I got to hang with my favorite Rwandan clinical assistant and it was really super great.

#227: You Will Leave a Mark

AH. Have you heard any of the new Decemberists album? 94.7 is playing "This is Why We Fight" all the time and I am WAY into it. Unfortunately the album won't be out until the 18th. But according to their facebook, you can (I haven't yet done so) listen to the entire thing on NPR's First Listen. I just would like to say for the record that I am not usually much of a Decemberists fan. I mean, I like them, but I don't throw my panties on stage like a lot of Portland.

Anyway, today's song is not the Decemberists for two reasons: 1. this song is better and 2. I can't buy The King Is Dead yet.

Also I had a great day! I went to the Daily Cafe for only the second time ever (what? I am not a Portlander) and had cupcakes for the kiddos' neighbors' dad's birthday. Many apostrophes. AND WENT TO THE GYM? Can you believe such a day?

UPDATE: Oh holy god, I'm listening to it right now on NPR and have loved every single track.

#226: I Need a Lover

I was listening to KGON and realized - this song is hilarious. I like to imagine the past girlfriends of the writer hearing this and hanging their heads in disgrace for ever dating such an ass who would write that they need a lover who will "thrill me and then go away." Or just a song that so ridiculously reinforces the commitment-phobic male stereotype. AKerr is trying to make "that's what he said" a thing - but not in the way that "that's what she said" is a thing. It goes a little more like this: "I'm not sure if I can commit to that yet" "That's what he said!" Unfortunately, there aren't as many phrases in the world that have a double meaning involving something a dude stereotype might say in a relationship as there are sexual innuendos.

#225: Ready

I admit, a six year old told me to listen to this song. But in my defense, I already had it and knew it and did not need the reminder of a six year old. Still, I hadn't listened to it in quite some time, and was glad to have the reminder! Cat Stevens is pretty excellent. Another one of my great accomplishments is making Soap a full-on Cat Stevens fan. She even sings it to her friends, thinking they'll think she's really super awesome for knowing all of the words to "Can't Keep It In." Unfortunately for her, they prefer to sing "dj turn it up up up up up up up" in Ke$ha's autotuned stylings. But I think she's really super awesome. In fact, I would go so far as to say she is my favorite six year old in the whole wide world ever of all time. Which is how Bean described her tonight.

So you may have noticed that I just added five months of songs in a day. This was part of a quest to be caught up with my 365 before the new year began, which failed. But I did it before the first work week of the new year began! So that's good too.

I'm planning to start some different blogging. I want to chronicle 30 Rock - with reviews of each episode, and tracking inside jokes and references, and of course ridiculous fan art and such. It would take a while to get all of them in, but maybe I'll start doing an episode per weekend or something.

Anyway, it's cool that you still look at this blog after months of inactivity, friends!

E-Merks asked if the rest of Cee-lo Green's album was good and I realized I had no idea. Well, turns out it is! It's sort of James Bond themed - the whole thing sounds like the soundtrack to a 70s spy movie. This one could be performed by Pussy Galore herself.
